OR MAYBE THAT LITTLE LIGHT ALL THE WAY DOWN AT THE END OF THE TUNNEL. OR MAYBE THE LIGHT IN THE EYES OF THE MAN NEXT TO YOU. EITHER WAY, EVERY DAY IT WAS THE SAME THING. THE SAME AIR. THE SAME SUFFOCATION AND THE SAME EXHAUSTION. EXCEPT IT WASN'T THE SAME FOR YOU BECAUSE YOU WERE SPECIAL. BECAUSE YOU DIDN'T HAVE TO MINE. YOU COULD GO DEEPER AND FIND THE BODIES LEFT BEHIND BECAUSE PULLING THEM OUT WOULD COST TIME AND MONEY. YOU COULD PULL THEM APART AND CLEAN OFF THE BONES AND FIGURE OUT HOW TO USE THEM. YOU COULD KILL ANYONE YOU WANTED DOWN THERE. YOU COULD GET AWAY WITH IT, TOO. BECAUSE AS LONG AS THE IRON CAME UP AND THE MONEY KEPT FLOWING AND THE WORKERS WERE QUIET NOBODY WORTH RESPECTING WOULD QUESTION YOU. AS LONG AS YOU DID WHAT YOU WERE TOLD YOU COULD DO ANYTHING YOU WANTED. AND YOU DID. YOU DID EVERY DAY DOWN THERE IN THAT DARKNESS. AND IN THE FOREST WHERE THE FOG ROSE UP. AND IN YOUR OWN HOME THE DAY EVERYTHING WENT RIGHT.
