[ it's a fair point. evan considers, shrugs, and pulls his hand off david's throat to reach up to the more easily-detached buckle. ]

Fair enough.

[ inside the mine entrance is a halfway point. unlikely to be seen by accident, but not exactly hidden. it's not long to undo the first buckle, but the second takes longer. the way it's connected wasn't actually meant to ever separate. over time he's adjusted it, but it still takes longer than he'd like.

the slow grind against him draws a noise, a low, pleased sound. he shifts his grip on david's belt to undo the buckle there as he works the one at his own shoulder. fumbles a little bit, one-handed, and then his own finally comes free and the waders drop halfway, caught where the two of them meet.

there's more scars on display now - old and new, with pieces of metal embedded in places, these ones less like shrapnel and more like they were intentional. it frees up his hand to work david's belt open, or at least start to help. ]
