[ trials can be brutal beyond imagining, but they shouldn't do this. evan eyes the angry wound where the hook went through, where clawmarks aren't fully faded. trial injuries. they aren't supposed to last, really. even if they survive, they should heal better than this.

of course, david's always had a history of being more injured than the others. always dealing with that tradeoff where he goes down quicker but gets up quicker, too. that could be part of it.

but, as they've just discussed, david's not the only survivor out here, and evan's familiar with the idea of lingering injuries. they're more common on the survivors that have been here longer. those, and other things.

he's silent a long few moments, feeling the pull at his neck and not giving in yet. should he say something? will it change anything if he does?

maybe later. he drops his hand from david's chest and moves it to his pants instead, leaning back in to get at another bite, because there's no wounds on david's neck that he can see. survivors have their own problems. if david's trying to ignore it, then evan's not going to make him deal with it right here and now. ]
