[ evan's not expecting the kick, even if he was expecting retaliation. it lands, hard, gets him in the knee, doesn't do any real damage but it hurts and he wasn't expecting it. he snarls and leans harder on david, both automatically and to try and keep him down.
dealing with a fight like this isn't the best idea while he's still buried inside him, but pulling away means letting go, and that means david's probably going to lunge. he's expecting a skull to the face, another kick, and so he tries to pin david's legs up against the table, awkward as it is to do. or at least make it harder to kick like that. ]
[ god that is a new kind of pain. the pinning, the pressure, that's all whatever, and evan still being inside him wasn't necessarily unpleasant when he was mostly still, but that bit of jostling is enough that it hits his senses sharp and blinding for. he shudders, presses his forehead against the table and lets out a low whine. ]
Told you to get the fuck off me.
[ pulls again at evan's grip on his arms for emphasis. it feels insane to him that this is even an issue right now. ]
Still fuckin' holding me down and you wanna ask what my problem is? The fuck's wrong with you?
[ evan gives him one more second of being stuck before letting go and pulling back - not as fast as he intended, but only out of self-preservation and maybe not getting elbowed directly in the dick. he takes a careful step back, just out of range of reprisal, before reaching down to drag his clothes back up. it's some protection, limited as it is.
and he gives david space. it's not intentional, or at least not intended to give david what he's asking for. that's just how it winds up. probably. ]
[ david snorts, like that's going to happen, but he takes the space with a grunt of pain at the stiffness in his shoulders. puts his forearms down on the table and just kind of... stays there for a bit, catching his breath. it's not the usual post-fuck breathlessness, but deep, panting breaths like recovering from running a mile. ]
[ it's been a lot. and it's not like he didn't enjoy the sex, even if it did kick up a bunch of shit he'd rather not ever think about or feel ever again, but somehow he's more pissed off than when he came in here. doesn't really know what to do with that. or about it. ]
[ he's probably just overthinking things. just needs to catch his breath and get his head on straight. ]
[ when there's no immediate attack, evan takes the time to pull his clothes back on. redo one buckle, then attach the other to the hook with a grunt that tells anyone listening closely that, yes, it does hurt to have that dragging on him all the time.
he watches david as he goes. no real movement, no argument, no ... anything. recovering. but he's still tense. it's not the same as last time, and evan can tell. he has to wonder what caused it, other than his own actions. if it was that, he'd be getting insults.
this time he leaves david to his own devices, because if there's a real problem he'll hear about it soon enough. he takes the time to test his weight on his leg - it was a hard kick - and go to get his mask, putting distance between him and the world again. at least metaphorically speaking. ]
[ once he feels a little less like he's about to vibrate out of his own skin, david pushes himself up and steps away from the table. stumbles, turns out his legs aren't quite solid under him just yet, but he catches himself without it being more than just a little dip in his step. ]
[ he does, however, hold up a hand in a gesture that should say don't you start loud and clear to evan. ]
Paid up then, yeah?
[ he means for it to come out as a joke, casual and nonchalant while he pulls his pants back up, but his tone falls kind of flat. normally he'd be mortified at missing the mark like that, but david knows evan's not going to call him on it, so it's whatever. ]
[ evan says nothing. partly because of the gesture, and partly because he doesn't need to. under the mask he smirks, briefly, faintly, but it's gone before david might even be able to recognize that anything's changed in the shadows where there's a break in the mask.
'paid up'. well, he can't really argue with it. ]
Sure. For now.
[ yes, he's paid up. but evan's certain there'll be other times when things are different. he watches david redress, hears the flatness in his voice, wonders just how deep the anger runs. wonders for a second if there's any way to burn him out so completely he can't even be bothered to leave afterward, although he's not sure he wants to find that out because it means a longer intrusion on his property.
[ funny that evan would wonder that, because david's halfway tempted to go find some corner of this place and curl up to rest and hope nobody finds him instead of trekking back to camp. just the thought of getting to the other end of the mineshaft seems hellish to him right now, but he'll manage. he always does. and if not then fuck it. ]
"For now."
[ he echoes with a scoff and a shake of his head as he fixes his shirt. he is keen to make sure that doesn't happen, but then again who knows when evan will decide he's done something that constitutes a favour and thus, david should pay him back for. ]
[ that's a future problem though. right now he's mostly focused on how moving hurts, shoves his hands in his pockets and turns to leave, ignoring the pain in his hips and ass as he walks. he'd like to think he's managing to keep some dignity, and if he looks more ridiculous than he feels evan better not say a fucking thing about it. ]
[ there's no argument; he was half expecting one. but maybe the anger's cooled down by now. whatever the reason, evan's not about to start something himself. at least this time.
and this time he only watches david make his way out of the workshop, not struggling as much as he might have expected. no comments, no directed looks from under the mask. not even a thought, really, as david leaves. nothing other than wondering just how much david's willing to put up with, and how much he himself is willing to do the same.
he waits until he's certain david's out of the mine before going back to his work. there's a couple busted traps he has to repair, now. he could argue david owes him for those, too, but that would start shit with other survivors who do the same thing, and he's not in the mood for that. ]
