[ it's a relief that evan doesn't follow him into the workshop, means that when he stumbles turning to walk toward the workbenches nobody is there to see it. not that it stops david until he gets to the one he left his clothes on. picks up his shirt but he doesn't put it on straight away, just leans against the table for a minute to catch his breath. ]
[ he doesn't know why he's not fighting. he should want to. should be grabbing the nearest heavy object to smash it into evan's face for this shit, but that's not where his anger has settled. not unfamiliar, but it's been a long time since anyone pissed him off enough that his instinct is to just leave like they're not even worth the effort. ]
[ why evan is able to have that effect on him, david isn't going to think about. ]
[ from his vantage point in the doorway, evan watches david lean against the table. still no violence. no attempt to take out the rage on the workshop, the way evan usually does when he's angry and has no other target. of course, that would send evan over the edge, so maybe it's for the best if david doesn't do it.
he could say something, ask a question, snap at him, but he doesn't. he sets down the rope where it was before, shuts the door most of the way, feels the inevitable tug of the entity in his mind, whispering in words he's learned to understand by now. they finished just in time.
but he still has to wonder about the reaction he got. reactions, more like. the clear and present want clashing with the barely-controllable rage. it's not a situation he, personally, could ever imagine; his whole life has been mostly just the anger.
he gives david a few more long silent seconds before the pull gets too strong, and he turns toward the darkness at the very back of the workshop and lets it take him. he can always figure this shit out later. ]
[ it takes some time for david to realise evan's gone, and something about that pisses him off even more. he was expecting evan to be a dickhead in one way or another — gloat about getting him down, snap at him for having an attitude after all that — but getting nothing feels like such an insult on top of everything that david could actually scream. he feels like he's going crazy, but really how is that different to any other day out here. ]
[ evan getting called off to trial means david has some time to rest up properly at least. he's desperately tired, but he'd rather stuff himself in that furnace than sleep here right now. ]
[ david takes his time, but unless evan has a freakishly quick trial he'll be gone by the time he's back. the workshop gets left as it was, but there's definitely a few smashed up traps — admittedly though, that's a case of david losing his temper at having to deal with them at all than it is specifically about getting back at evan. (not that he'll know it.) one even seems to get thrown a decent distance, blood on the teeth meaning david didn't come away from that one unscathed. ]
[ maybe he should just stop coming out here. stop talking to evan. stop all of this if he's just gonna keep coming away from it feeling like a lunatic. it's not like this is the only thing that's got under his skin, because ultimately theres a decent number of things that he doesn't like about the way whatever this situation is makes him feel. this is just the biggest one. ]
