until david has no other choice than to let up, he stays where he is, not willing to risk another crush, especially if there's still a risk it could hit his neck. the shrapnel and hooks can only do so much to protect him even from that. evan watches david, watches the fury, waits for it to break, just a little. ]

[ evan will likely feel the way the thigh under his hand flexes, twists but doesn't move more than that. david considering his options. he wonders if he has enough strength in his legs to pull evan in and choke him, tries to ignore the sensation of evan's fingers to try and figure out how fast he'd have to be to pull that off. ]
[ it takes another moment of considering what the worst case scenario for him here is before david decides to go for it while evan's focus is elsewhere. lifting his hips just a bit, just enough to kick his legs up and try to get them around evan. ideally around his neck but david's not necessarily flexible enough to get them up there, he'll take what he can get. intent to lock his ankles behind evan and squeeze. ]

the tension breaks, and suddenly david's trying to - not kick, but grab, which was something evan didn't expect. he manages to catch one leg partway up with the elbow of the hand not inside david, but the other gets up higher, and then suddenly david's squeezing his ribcage hard enough that evan nearly chokes.
he manages to wheeze out a breath as his caught arm on one side and his ribs on the other creak with the force of it. it's angry, but there's a laugh to it, too. ]

[ david's avoided any edged shrapnel. deliberately or by chance? doesn't matter. evan digs his fingers in deeper, knowing he can probably end this without letting go. trying to find a way to distract david in turn before he starts doing damage - real damage - to evan's not-exactly-insignificant torso. ]

[ of course he'd considered some potential damage as a consequence, but when evan digs his fingers in it's a hell of a shock to the system. david's breath catches and his hips jerk, but he doesn't let up. ]

[ he tries to ignore the way his body wants to sag after that spike, holds out for a good few moments to try and make evan give first, but david can't help how his body sinks. ]

he works his fingers in a little deeper, trying to get him to let go not out of a return agony but because he can't focus. in truth part of evan wants to fight him to make him stop, but it won't work, here and now. this isn't a fistfight. isn't a brawl. beating him into submission would be more satisfying but it'd end this. maybe another day. maybe when he's a little less driven to get the rope involved.
until david has no other choice than to let up, he stays where he is, not willing to risk another crush, especially if there's still a risk it could hit his neck. the shrapnel and hooks can only do so much to protect him even from that. evan watches david, watches the fury, waits for it to break, just a little. ]

[ he's staring daggers up at evan, lips pulled back in both effort and anger, but eventually the sensation of evan's fingers is too much for him to push past and his grip gives. legs going lax as his head falls back with a curse that's equal parts a moan and frustration at this whole fucking situation. extra pissed because it feels good and that's so unfair he wants to start a new fight all over again. ]
[ despite everything though, david pulls his free leg to kick at evan for emphasis, aiming at his chest. it's not as hard as he wants, but at this point it's more like throwing a tantrum than it is any actual attempt to fight and really he feels he's entitled to at least that much. ]

it disappears anyway when david kicks him. that one he doesn't manage to stop, but it's not a hard kick. enough to irritate but not enough to infuriate. it avoided any of the bad wounds, after all.
he knocks david's leg aside and works him a little more, intending to try and stop any other attempts to get some kind of petty revenge before pulling his hand away to slick up his fingers again - this time to use on himself. the rope's enough of a problem, he figures. ]
Next time I'll beat you into this. Make it worth losing.
